What do we have now? Advertisement and Bookstore

Daily short news for you
  • Previously, there was a mention of openai/codex - a type of agent that runs conveniently in the Terminal from OpenAI, especially since it is open source and they have now added support for other providers instead of just using the chatgpt model as before.

Recently, Anthropic also introduced Claude Code which is quite similar to Codex, except it is not open source and you are required to use their API. Since I don't have money to experiment, I've only heard that people in the programming community praise it a lot, and it might even be better than Cursor. On the flip side, there's the risk of burning a hole in your wallet at any moment 😨

  • For a long time, I have been thinking about how to increase brand presence, as well as users for the blog. After much contemplation, it seems the only way is to share on social media or hope they seek it out, until...

  • A cycle of developing many projects is quite interesting. Summarized in 3 steps: See something complex -> Simplify it -> Add features until it becomes complex again... -> Back to a new loop.

Why is that? Let me give you 2 examples to illustrate.

Markdown was created with the aim of producing a plain text format that is "easy to write, easy to read, and easy to convert into something like HTML." At that time, no one had the patience to sit and write while also adding formatting for how the text displayed on the web. Yet now, people are "stuffing" or creating variations based on markdown to add so many new formats that… they can’t even remember all the syntax.

React is also an example. Since the time of PHP, there has been a desire to create something that clearly separates the user interface from the core logic processing of applications into two distinct parts for better readability and writing. The result is that UI/UX libraries have developed very robustly, providing excellent user interaction, while the application logic resides on a separate server. The duo of Front-end and Back-end emerged from this, with the indispensable REST API waiter. Yet now, React doesn’t look much different from PHP, leading to Vue, Svelte... all converging back to a single point.

However, the loop is not bad; on the contrary, this loop is more about evolution than "regression." Sometimes, it creates something good from something old, and people rely on that goodness to continue the loop. In other words, it’s about distilling the essence little by little 😁

Issue

I haven't written any new articles for over a week because I've been spending time adding some new features. Before I explain what it is, please allow me to take a few minutes of your time to talk about: I have added advertisements to the website.

Well, it was quite sudden when the ads started appearing. Actually, I planned to notify readers in advance, about 2 weeks to a month, but since my Adsense account was approved unexpectedly and I was eager to see how the ads worked, I decided to implement them right away.

I know many people don't like advertisements, and I'm the same. Whenever I visit a website with too many ads, it often gives me a negative experience, sometimes even a sense of deception, like spam... I use many ad blockers to avoid seeing them, and ironically, now I'm placing ads on my own website.

Actually, from the beginning, I didn't expect much revenue from ads. The website has a modest amount of traffic, and my joy and motivation simply come from seeing it grow every day, through my articles reaching more people, or even from the readers' own interest. But you know, I also need to find a bigger motivation to produce more content. If the quality is good, readers will enjoy it, and I will gain more traffic and ad revenue.

This is just the beginning. To be honest, I care more about the readers' experience than displaying ads. As evidence, last week, I reduced the number of ad placements because they were too many, causing clutter and obstructing the content of the articles, which I don't like.

I believe that ads themselves are not bad, only those who place them are. I have stopped using ad blockers for over 2 months, even before I added Adsense. When I find valuable information on a website that contains ads, I shouldn't judge whether placing ads is right or wrong, but rather see it as a reward for the content creator, although it may not be much, at least they will be happy to see someone supporting them.

In the near future, I might disable ads for any readers who login to the website and read articles. Hopefully, this can be seen as a thank you to those who are interested in me and this blog.

Setting aside ads, last week I also created a Bookstore page. Here, I will compile the books I've read, share my thoughts, content... along with purchase links. Yes, I am selling books through Affiliate marketing. If you're interested, you can click on the "Books" link right on the navigation bar to access it. At first, there may not be many, but I will try to update with more books.

Bookstore

Speaking of reading books, it is a complex topic because everyone has different opinions about it. Some believe that books are a treasure trove of knowledge, while others are skeptical or simply not interested... I respect each person's viewpoint and won't discuss too much about this topic, but if you have a habit of reading books, you will likely enjoy reading more books.

Since these are books I've read, and my favorite genres are Psychology, Culture, History, Philosophy... so there may be more books in these categories. I hope there are many readers who share the same interests, but even if not, you can still give it a try, who knows, you might end up liking it :D.

Putting books aside, my upcoming plan is to create another similar page, but focusing on Coffee. From equipment, beans, toys... to detailed reviews... But it may take a while because I still need to focus on completing the Bookstore page and finish some other articles.

Lastly, as usual, thank you to all readers who have followed me during this period. Your presence will contribute to improving this Blog even more. Thank you!
